Episode 334 – Guest : Steve Peters

This week, Steve Peters steps up with a couple of macro-related stories:
There’s the Top 20 macro shots on 500px this year (so far),
and a great portfolio of macro shots involving toy cars in different lands.
Steve has just discovered the DxO One, but is not convinced of its usefulness.
Adam told us about the Canon EF-M28mm macro lens with a built-in LED ring light,
and George reminds us that how the camera FEELS in your hands is just as important as its technical prowess.
Then, it seems that photographers are in danger of being labelled “pigeons”, with a slew of stories about photographic bad behaviour…
The 126 year old statue,
The 1920’s petrol station (also submitted by Adam),
plus some stories we’ve covered in the recent past… the Canadian bus shelters,
and the historical shipwreck story.

I have been a professional audio engineer since the mid 80's and am happy to do for free in my spare time what I get paid to do during the week. I created Shutters Inc in May 2005, and it is today (as best as I can tell) THE longest-running photography podcast in the world.

Regarding the drone, you had pointed out previously that it was a plastic bag. This does show the damage that media can do to an entire new industry though. First report something incredibly damaging on the front page in every publication possible, then report the correction in small print on page 38 a few weeks later.

So now most people believe a drone hit a plane and that didn’t happen. Actually considering the number of drones out there and the very low number of incidents, most owners are very responsible and are following the rules and being safe.

Another interesting podcast – thanks Bruce and Steve.
Re the broken statues and vandalism that’s done by people taking selfies, one can only hope that natural selection will kick in and increasing numbers of them will succumb to the ‘died whilst taking a selfie’ phenomenon.
As for the idiots setting fire to things with burning steel wool, those photos are sooooooo clichéd and done to death. Find something original to shoot, you Wallies!
    Keep up the good work.
