Episode 497 – A million miles from home

This week, NASA’s Perseverance rover touched down on the red planet. Did you know it has (count ’em!) 23 cameras on board?
Check out the NASA Mars home page here for more info.

Walt Kippenhuck told us about Don Komarechka who also does some amazing snowflake photography (along with a bunch of other incredible imagery)! Check out his work at his site.

Adam told us about the 800,000 images which were destined for destruction at the Beijing Silver Mine, until they were bought by a French guy who wanted to save them.

Glynn found out that Canon has now manufactured over 150 million RF and EF lenses!

In the wake of Perseverance’s arrival on Mars, it might have been easy to miss some of NASA’s other photographic exploits of late. Like these new images of Jupiter, captured by the Juno probe.

And if you still haven’t got your astronomical fix, how about this 4 hour video of what it’s like to circumnavigate the moon?

I have been a professional audio engineer since the mid 80's and am happy to do for free in my spare time what I get paid to do during the week. I created Shutters Inc in May 2005, and it is today (as best as I can tell) THE longest-running photography podcast in the world.
